Interchangeable part numbers for this profile. A solid node is already profiled in this catalogue; a hollow node is a valid substitute that has no profile yet.
GRM21BR71H104KA01L not yet profiled
Murata 0805 100 nF 50 V X7R. Same footprint and rating; Murata's part has a slightly lower ESR above 10 MHz, worth about 1-2 dB of decoupling improvement at 100 MHz.
CC0805KKX7R9BB104 not yet profiled
Yageo 0805 equivalent, typically 30-40 % cheaper. The trade is lot-to-lot consistency: KEMET publishes a tighter capacitance distribution, which matters when you are matching two caps in a differential filter.
C0805C104K5RACAUTO not yet profiled
Automotive AEC-Q200 grade of the same part number. Identical electrically; the difference is qualification evidence and change notification, which you pay about 2x for.
The only prose on this page
For a hand-assembled board 0805 is the sensible default: it is about 2.5x the footprint area of 0603, visible without magnification, and still uses less board than a 1206. The electrical penalty is small — about 0.05 nH more ESL and a slightly lower self-resonant frequency — and the mechanical benefit during rework is large.
A 100 nF in 0805 next to a power pin handles the 1-50 MHz band. Putting a second 100 nF further away does almost nothing because the trace inductance between them dominates. If you have board area and want broadband decoupling, use one 100 nF 0805 close in plus one 1 µF 0805 further out, which acts as a bulk reservoir, rather than two identical 100 nF parts.
Flex cracking and thermal shock are the two ways this part dies. Both produce a short, not an open, and both are invisible until the board is powered. On a board with a break-away edge, keep 0805s at least 5 mm from the rail; on a large panel, use a routed V-score rather than a snapped edge.

| Sourcing — Availability risk | 0805 100 nF is the workhorse decoupling value for hand-soldered and low-density boards. Available from every major MLCC manufacturer, no meaningful lead time, and it is one of the few passives that stayed on the shelf through the 2021-2022 shortage. |
|---|---|
| Pinout and handling | Two-terminal, non-polarised. At 0805 the body is large enough to carry a printed marking on some manufacturers' parts, but KEMET does not print capacitance on this size — the only field identification is the reel label. The nickel barrier termination is what makes the part compatible with both leaded and lead-free processes. |
