Selection notes

Where 10 kΩ 0603 actually gets used

Pull-ups on I2C lines (4.7 kΩ-10 kΩ at 3.3 V), gate pull-downs on MOSFETs, divider legs for ADC scaling, and base bias in small-signal stages. At 3.3 V across the body a 10 kΩ part dissipates 1.1 mW, roughly 1 % of rated power, so self-heating is a non-issue in signal paths and the ±100 ppm/°C drift barely moves a divider.

Tolerance and drift in a divider

In a two-resistor divider the ratio error is the difference of the two drifts, not the sum. Two F-grade parts from the same reel track within about ±25 ppm/°C of each other on a short board, so a 1 % divider stays inside about 1.3 % over a 60 °C swing. If you need better than that, either buy a matched array or calibrate at assembly temperature.

Handling and rework

0603 is comfortable for hand soldering with a 0.4 mm tip at 320 °C, but the end terminations dissolve measurably in lead-free solder after about three rework cycles. One rework pass is safe; if a part has been touched twice, replace it rather than reflow it a third time.

Sourcing — Availability risk One of the highest-volume 0603 values in distribution; multi-million piece stock at Digi-Key, Mouser, LCSC and TME most weeks. Reel pricing lands near $0.004-0.008 each at 5k quantity. The only realistic shortage risk is a broad thick-film allocation event, not this specific value.
Pinout and handling Two-terminal chip; terminals are not polarity sensitive. The printed resistance code sits on the top face and is unreadable once the part is placed on a dense board, so orientation marks come from the pick-and-place nozzle, not the body.
